Toy dolls
Toy dolls have been around for thousands and thousands of years. Ancient doll-like artifacts have been discovered which date back to times earlier than our historical records. Different figurines have been valued by many different cultures, seemingly for many different purposes.
For some of these ancient cultures, toy dolls weren't created as play things at all. Many of them seem to have been treasured and sacred items for spiritual use. At other times, they were used as a means of letting other regions know about the contemporary local fashions. Today, they are primarily designed for the entertainment of children.
Toy dolls have not only varied according to culture, region, and date. Many different materials have been used to create them. The beginning designs utilized such natural materials as wood and clay. Sometimes, they were even created from bone. The next big step was the use of paper and cloth. This was followed by porcelain and china. Today, rubber and plastic are much more common materials.
