Princess dolls
Princess dolls have been historically created to tap into both fantasy as well as femininity. Some are inspired by specific fairy tales, movies, or stories. Still others may simply have originated around the basic concept of princesshood. Ornate gowns, tiaras, and ballroom shoes are a few of the clothing items with which they have traditionally been associated.
Today, however, princess dolls may come in many forms in addition to those with pink and pastel designs. This is because of the increase in diversity awareness that has developed and is continuing to develop in the world today. The designs for princess figures and accessories have, resultingly, reached into a wider range of aesthetics and emphasis. Some are designed after princesses of different cultures, others may take on more contemporary and gender neutral themes of leadership, politics, and assertiveness.
Among the most widely recognized princess dolls of today are those created by Disney. The company has eight major characters within this line: Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Snow White. The line developed in the year 2000, however, the company has been working with princess themes for over seventy years.
