Fashion dolls

Fashion dolls exist for the purpose of demonstrating trends in the world of clothing and cosmetics. These first arose before the existence of magazines or photography. The figurines were produced and then ornately decorated according to local customs and styles. They were then presented as gifts to other regions.

It was in Europe during the fifteenth century that these first fashion dolls were developed. Most often, they were exchanged between royalty. This makes sense as they were trend setters as well as the ones who could easily afford the most elaborate creations. England, France, Germany, Italy, and Holland are a few examples of countries which engaged such practices.

Fashion dolls in today's world are not necessarily designed to be so elaborate. Most are very simply and affordably designed as playthings for younger girls. However, plenty of these items are also created as collectibles still. Figures created for this purpose are often significantly more expensive.
